Safety in and Around Yelapa
Though our ultimate retreat destination is a small fishing village only accessible by boat, and deeply sheltered from any regional activity, our flights will arrive in Puerto Vallarta and we will spend one night in the Romance District at our hotel Petit Amaca.
So we want to address the recent reports regarding civil unrest in Puerto Vallarta.
While there was recent activity in the region following a Mexican military operation on February 22, 2026, by the next day local reports showed that Puerto Vallarta was already returning to normal, with businesses reopening and cleanup efforts well underway.
Although the U.S. State Department briefly advised a "shelter in place" for the city, these advisories were lifted soon after.
We have been in communication with our retreat host Carolyn who has lived in Yelapa for over 20 years. She let us know that guests leaving Pura Vida to fly out of Puerto Vallarta on the 24th experienced no hiccups at all, and that Pura Vida staff has been in and out of PV running errands without trouble.
You can listen to her voicemail:
Additionally, the New York times reported on Wednesday, April 25th, that AI disinformation videos played a big role in inflating the seriousness of the situation – inciting greater concern than reality dictated.
You can check out that report here.
After careful consideration we have confidence that safety has been re-established in Puerto Vallarta.
Should any official guidance from the U.S. Embassy in Mexico suggest a change in plans, we will reach out to you immediately.
We are looking forward to the neuromagnetic magic that awaits us in Yelapa.
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any individual questions or concerns.
